"Sustainable development: meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Brundtland Commission, 1987

Introduction

3 Pillars Network in partnership with the Australian Employment Covenant, Philanthropy Australia and the Net Balance Foundation present a one-day conference that addresses the intersection between sustainability and indigenous issues: employment, education and environment.

This unprecedented event brings together for the first time leaders from ALL indigenous areas - business, education, philanthropy, advocacy, government and environment.

Why now?

The governmental Closing the Gap initiatives have helped kick-start many exciting new Indigenous programs and important questions relating to long-term sustainable and positive outcomes are being asked.

This conference aims to air the issues and provide a sounding board for those who know and care about future sustainability across Indigenous employment, education and environment initiatives.

The event will:

  • Address tensions: Reconciling and respecting traditions and mainstream practices
  • Develop effective models, frameworks and evaluation techniques to improve opportunities and equity
  • Showcase successful indigenous businesses and enterprises to drive sustainable outcomes for future generations

Key speakers include

  • Warren Mundine, Chairman of the Australian Indigenous Chamber of Commerce,
  • Andrew Penfold, CEO of the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation and
  • Rhonda Parker, CEO of the Australian Employment Covenant.

With the vast range of highly regarded speakers gathered together, we are confident that this showcase conference will be regarded as an important contribution to future successful Indigenous outcomes.

3 Pillars Network

3 Pillars Network is a not for profit organisation which aims to create a leading knowledge network on sustainability and resilience in Australia.

The network will generate and share knowledge via events, online briefings, webinars and research.

The aim is to run conferences that are change events: they will reframe a policy issue, start a new change conversation and support some fundamental shifts. The events would be nested in a peer-exchange network, to build the discussion and collaboration.

3 Pillars Network believes that the challenges we face require new capabilities to adapt and rapid innovation: in policies, service propositions and behaviours.

The subjects we focus on and the design of our networks and events will reflect this.
